Cryogen Free Dilution Refrigerators

Cryomagnetics pioneered much of the technology associated with pulse-tube cooled, cryogen free superconducting magnet systems.

In fact, the world’s first 9T, 4.2K pulse-tube cooled superconducting magnet system was manufactured by Cryomagnetics in 1999.

Cryoconcept (A subsidiary of Cryomagnetics Inc)  is also a world leader in cryogen free dilution refrigerators. In conjunction with technology from the CEA and CRNS laboratories, Cryoconcept’s cryogen free dilution refrigerators offer the fastest cooldown times, no physical contact between the dilution stage and cryocooler for the lowest vibration level possible, and many other innovative features. Combining both companies’ strengths results in a cryogen-free dilution refrigerator/superconducting magnet system with unmatched performance, reliability, and ease of use.

The dilution refrigerator is available with up to 400μW of cooling power at 100mK with a base temperature of less than/equal to 10mK. The superconducting magnet is available with fields up to 14 Tesla with a variety of bore sizes and homogeneous volumes.

The system integrates a high performance cryogen-free dilution refrigerator with a cryogen-free high field superconducting magnet. The combination is cooled using a low vibration pulse tube cryocooler and uses an advanced control system to simplify operation. The system is easy to maintain, and since everything is cooled by a single refrigerator, it is very efficient.

The system also incorporates an automatic gas handling system optimized for use with the dilution refrigerator. Control is through a user-friendly touch-screen interface or remotely through an Ethernet interface. The superconducting magnet can be controlled through Ethernet, USB, or IEEE-488 interface.

The picture above shows a compact cryogen free dilution refrigerator/superconducting magnet system. In this configuration, the superconducting magnet is installed parallel to the dilution.
